Role and Responsibilities
- Perform detailed sheet metal takeoffs using Trimble or similar takeoff software, including rectangular duct, spiral duct, and specialty materials.
- Assist in developing estimates from early design sets, narratives, and partial drawings.
- Support pricing efforts where design is incomplete by helping fill in scope gaps and make reasonable, defensible assumptions.
- Generate and interpret reports including material quantities, fabrication labor, and field installation labor.
- Develop fabrication estimates including material, labor, and production requirements for the Carolina Spiral shop.
- Provide field installation labor based on takeoff quantities and production rates.
- Review construction drawings, early design documents, and narratives to identify duct systems, pressure classes, fabrication requirements, and missing scope.
- Apply knowledge of SMACNA standards and duct construction methods.
- Identify and resolve scope gaps, inconsistencies, and constructability issues.
- Coordinate with internal mechanical estimators, the fabrication shop, and engineering as needed.
- Provide technical support related to duct fabrication scope and pricing.
- Support development of accurate and competitive fabrication and installation pricing.
- Other such duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Company from time to time.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the HVAC or sheet metal industry. (fabrication experience preferred)
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Working knowledge of duct systems, airflow concepts, pressure classes, and construction methods.
- Understanding of sheet metal materials and gauges.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
- Regular and supervisory probation period required, if applicable.
- Random drug testing required.
- Strong communication skills.
- Strong work ethic.
- Must successfully pass a background check and drug test.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Physical Demands: Constant sitting, walking short distances, bending, stooping, twisting, reaching above and/or below shoulder, handling/grasping documents or office equipment, clear speaking and adequate hearing sufficient to communicate effectively and respond appropriately in-person and/or on the telephone, vision sufficient to read source materials and computer screen data, repetitive motions for computer equipment use, lift 25 lbs. occasionally, 5-10 lbs frequently to lift/carry/move objects, files and documents.
Preferred / Additional Skills
- Experience working from incomplete or conceptual design information.
- Ability to interpret early design intent, sketches, or narratives and translate them into scope.
- Exposure to conceptual or design-assist estimating.
- Ability to fill in scope gaps and make reasonable, defensible assumptions during early-stage pricing.
Work Environment
Work is performed in an office environment with air conditioning and bright lights.
